RP OVER RULEPLAY

Remain in character and let situations develop naturally. If something goes wrong, finish the scene where reasonably possible and report it afterward. The goal isn't to win every interaction - it's to create stories worth remembering.

1.1Respect Other Players+

Bullying, harassment, targeted abuse, threats or deliberately making another member of the community uncomfortable is not permitted.

Conflict between characters is expected.

Conflict between players should remain respectful.

What happens in character should remain in character.

1.2Communication+

Players must have a functioning microphone and be capable of communicating sufficiently in English to participate in roleplay.

Deliberately using disruptive audio, excessive soundboards, ear-damaging noises or intentionally poor microphone settings may result in staff action.

1.3Cheating & Exploiting+

Cheating, hacking, exploiting or using modifications designed to provide an unfair advantage is strictly prohibited.

This includes knowingly abusing bugs, exploits or unintended mechanics for personal gain.

If you discover an exploit, report it to staff rather than continuing to use or distribute it.

1.4Ban Evasion+

Attempting to bypass a ban or suspension using another account, identity or method is prohibited.

1.5Real-Money Trading+

In-game money, vehicles, property, items, services or other assets may not be bought, sold or traded for real-world money or goods outside of officially approved Rift services.

Official server support packages will only be offered through Rift's authorized store.

1.6Encouraging Rule Breaks+

You may not deliberately encourage, pressure or trick another player into breaking server rules.

1.7False Information+

Knowingly providing false out-of-character information to staff, including information relevant to applications, investigations or disciplinary matters, is prohibited.

1.8Advertising+

Advertising another FiveM community, commercial service or unrelated community without staff approval is prohibited.

1.918+ Community+

Rift Roleplay is an 18+ community. You must be at least 18 years old to play on the server or participate in age-restricted Rift community spaces.

Misrepresenting your age may result in removal from the community.

2.1Random Deathmatch - RDM+

Players may not attack, injure or kill another player without a valid roleplay reason.

Violence should have appropriate context, escalation or an established roleplay reason behind it.

Not every hostile interaction requires a scripted verbal declaration before violence occurs. Staff will consider whether the players involved could reasonably understand that the situation had become hostile.

Simply seeing another player, disliking them or wanting their belongings is not sufficient justification to immediately kill them.

2.2Vehicle Deathmatch - VDM+

Vehicles may not be deliberately used as weapons against players without appropriate roleplay justification.

Accidents and reasonable vehicle interactions are not automatically VDM.

Repeatedly attempting to run somebody over, deliberately mowing down unrelated players or using a vehicle solely to avoid normal combat or roleplay mechanics may be considered VDM or FailRP.

2.3FailRP+

Players must make a reasonable effort to behave consistently with the world and circumstances around their character.

FailRP includes actions that significantly undermine a roleplay situation through unrealistic, nonsensical or mechanically abusive behavior.

Examples include transferring items through solid walls, abusing animations or mechanics to escape consequences, or ignoring serious injuries without reasonable roleplay.

Not every unrealistic action automatically constitutes FailRP. Context matters.

2.4Value of Life / Fear RP+

Your character should reasonably value their life.

If your character is placed at an obvious and immediate disadvantage - for example, being surrounded or held at gunpoint with no reasonable opportunity to escape - they should respond appropriately to that danger.

Fear RP does not mean a player must blindly obey every command whenever a weapon is visible.

Players may take reasonable opportunities to escape, defend themselves or change the situation where the circumstances genuinely allow it.

Actions that amount to deliberately throwing away your character's life with little or no reasonable chance of success may be considered FailRP.

2.5Metagaming+

Information obtained outside of your character's roleplay may not be used to influence your character's actions.

This includes information obtained through:

  • Discord
  • Livestreams
  • Another player's screen
  • OOC conversations
  • Another one of your characters
  • Any other source your current character could not reasonably know

Information must be learned in character before your character may act upon it.

2.6Powergaming+

Players may not force unrealistic actions or outcomes onto another player without allowing reasonable opportunity for interaction or response.

You may not use game mechanics, commands, animations or limitations of the game to force an outcome that would otherwise require roleplay.

2.7Combat Logging+

Disconnecting from the server to escape or avoid an active roleplay situation, arrest, injury, combat or other consequence is prohibited.

If your game crashes during an active scene, reconnect as soon as reasonably possible and attempt to continue the situation.

Where necessary, contact the players involved or staff through the appropriate Discord channel.

2.8Character Separation+

Your characters are separate people.

Information, relationships, grudges, criminal knowledge and other information learned by one character may not automatically be transferred to another character.

Your own characters may not be used to directly benefit each other through the transfer of money, vehicles, property, items or information.

2.9Character Switching & Conflicts of Interest+

Players may not switch characters to gain an advantage for themselves, their friends, their group or another one of their characters.

This includes switching from a criminal character to a police, EMS, business or other character to access information, influence an active situation, protect friends, interfere with an investigation or otherwise benefit people involved in roleplay your other character has knowledge of.

If one of your characters is involved in an active or developing situation, use common sense before bringing another character into anything connected to it.

2.10AFK Responsibility+

If you need to step away from the game, move your character somewhere reasonably safe and away from active roleplay.

Remaining connected while AFK does not make your character immune from the world around them.

3.1Roleplaying Injuries+

Players are expected to appropriately roleplay significant injuries.

Being shot, stabbed, involved in a major collision or suffering another serious injury should have an appropriate effect on your character.

You do not need to roleplay every minor injury for hours, but repeatedly ignoring severe injuries to immediately return to fighting may be considered FailRP.

3.2Incapacitated Players+

Being incapacitated does not automatically remove you from an active roleplay scene.

You should continue to roleplay your condition where the server mechanics allow you to do so.

Information obtained while unconscious or otherwise incapable of reasonably perceiving your surroundings should not later be used by your character.

3.3Respawning+

Choosing to respawn represents your character being removed from the immediate situation and receiving medical treatment.

After respawning, you may not immediately return to the scene in order to continue the conflict, recover belongings, seek revenge or assist your group.

You should not use information your character could not reasonably retain from the circumstances surrounding their incapacitation.

3.4New Life & Memory+

Rift does not use an arbitrary timer where your character suddenly forgets an exact number of minutes.

Instead, use common sense.

If your character is killed or forced to respawn, they should not immediately remember precise details that allow them to identify an attacker, locate the scene or retaliate.

Other characters may later provide information to you through roleplay.

3.5EMS Roleplay+

If EMS are actively treating you, participate in the medical roleplay.

Do not deliberately use respawn mechanics to avoid an active EMS interaction, police investigation or other ongoing roleplay unless the game or circumstances require it.

3.6Permanent Character Death+

No player may permanently kill, permanently remove or force the permanent death of another player's character without that player's written OOC permission beforehand.

The permission must clearly apply to the character and situation involved and should be retained so it can be provided to staff if required.

A player always controls whether their own character is permanently killed unless a separately published server policy explicitly states otherwise.

4.1Character Names+

Characters must have reasonable names appropriate for roleplay.

Names deliberately designed as jokes, offensive references, celebrity impersonations or obvious attempts to troll may be rejected.

4.2Trolling+

Joining scenes solely to disrupt them, intentionally creating nonsensical interactions, repeatedly provoking players without roleplay purpose or otherwise treating the server as a sandbox at the expense of other people's RP is prohibited.

4.3Cop Baiting+

Deliberately attempting to attract police attention solely to provoke a pursuit, shootout or reaction is prohibited.

Examples include repeatedly circling officers while insulting them, intentionally committing meaningless offenses directly in front of police solely to create a chase, or repeatedly calling emergency services without a legitimate roleplay purpose.

Committing crimes where police may reasonably respond is not automatically cop baiting.

4.4Scene Interference+

Do not insert yourself into an active roleplay scene without a reasonable in-character reason to be involved.

Seeing police dealing with somebody does not automatically give your character justification to interfere.

Existing relationships, criminal involvement or genuine circumstances may provide a legitimate reason.

4.5Hospital Areas+

Hospitals should generally be treated as locations for medical roleplay rather than places to begin criminal conflict.

Do not intentionally start robberies, kidnappings or violent encounters inside a hospital without substantial roleplay justification.

A player cannot escape an already active situation simply by running into a hospital.

4.6Emergency Vehicles+

Police, EMS and other emergency vehicles may only be stolen where doing so makes sense within an active roleplay situation.

Holding up an emergency worker solely because you want their vehicle is not sufficient roleplay.

If you steal an emergency vehicle while escaping a situation, you should make a reasonable effort to abandon it once it is no longer necessary.

5.1Criminal RP Should Create RP+

Criminal activity should create interaction rather than simply maximize mechanical rewards.

Players are encouraged to develop motives, plans, relationships and consequences around criminal activity.

Not every crime requires an elaborate story, but repeatedly treating criminal systems solely as farming mechanics at the expense of roleplay may result in staff intervention.

5.2Hostages Must Be Genuine+

All hostages used during a robbery, heist, kidnapping or negotiation must physically exist in-game and be genuinely involved in the scene.

A hostage may be another player or, where supported by the server, a local NPC.

Players may not invent, pretend to have or otherwise use an imaginary hostage to gain an advantage during negotiations.

Hostages must not be staged using friends, group members or willing accomplices purely to manipulate police negotiations or obtain demands without genuine risk.

No fake, invisible or "Casper" hostages.

5.3Hostage Treatment+

Taking a hostage should generate roleplay for the hostage as well as the criminals.

Do not unnecessarily hold somebody for an excessive amount of time.

Hostages should be interacted with and included in the scene rather than treated purely as an item used to obtain demands.

5.4Robbing Other Players+

Player robberies must have legitimate roleplay context.

You may take reasonable items or cash currently carried by the victim where appropriate to the situation.

Pocket wiping is prohibited.

Do not completely empty another player's inventory simply because game mechanics allow you to.

Players may not force another player to:

  • Transfer money from their bank
  • Sell or transfer vehicles
  • Transfer property
  • Withdraw stored assets
  • Empty personal storage
  • Retrieve items from their home

The objective should be to create criminal roleplay, not financially destroy another player.

5.5Robbery & Heist Negotiations+

Negotiations should be conducted in good faith by both criminals and police.

Demands should be reasonable and related to the circumstances of the scene.

Having a hostage does not guarantee that every demand must be accepted.

Likewise, negotiations should not be deliberately used simply to stall indefinitely or remove all opportunity for the other side to participate.

5.6Initiation & Escalation+

Hostile roleplay requires appropriate context.

Initiation does not always require a specific phrase or verbal countdown.

A robbery, kidnapping, established gang conflict, clearly communicated threat or developing confrontation may provide sufficient context for players to reasonably understand that violence is possible.

However, players may not use vague or insignificant interactions as an excuse to immediately kill somebody.

Staff will consider the entire sequence of events when determining whether appropriate escalation occurred.

5.7Police Traffic Stops+

Police activating emergency lights or attempting to conduct a traffic stop does not, by itself, provide justification to immediately shoot officers.

Players may flee, cooperate, deceive officers or allow the situation to develop through roleplay.

Deadly violence requires appropriate escalation and circumstances beyond simply being pulled over.

5.8Downed Police Officers+

Once officers have been incapacitated and the immediate threat has ended, criminals should prioritize continuing or escaping the scene rather than remaining solely to antagonise, repeatedly attack or humiliate downed officers.

Remaining in an area for a legitimate roleplay reason is not automatically prohibited.

5.9Prison & Custody+

Being arrested does not end roleplay.

Players should participate reasonably in booking, transport, sentencing and prison interactions.

Do not deliberately exploit mechanics to escape custody where doing so would be unrealistic.

5.10Prison Transport+

Attempts to intercept or rescue somebody from police transport must have legitimate roleplay context and involve somebody your character has a genuine reason to rescue.

A transport should not be attacked simply because players noticed police moving a prisoner.

The situation should be allowed to develop naturally and appropriate escalation rules still apply.

5.11Prison Conflict+

Prison is not automatically a safe zone.

Conflict may occur when supported by genuine roleplay, but players should not use prison simply as an opportunity to randomly attack inmates or continuously restart conflicts.

6.1Respect the Roleplay+

Police and EMS are players participating in the same roleplay environment as everyone else.

Do not treat them purely as mechanics or NPCs.

Likewise, emergency-service characters are expected to create roleplay rather than unnecessarily shut it down.

6.2Police Equipment+

Police equipment should only be taken where appropriate to the roleplay situation.

Players should not repeatedly hunt officers solely to farm weapons, ammunition or specialist equipment.

6.3EMS+

EMS personnel should not be attacked, robbed or kidnapped without substantial roleplay justification.

Their primary purpose is to provide medical roleplay and keep scenes moving.

EMS status does not provide absolute immunity where they have voluntarily become involved in an existing hostile situation.

6.4Active Scenes+

Do not interfere with police or EMS scenes purely because you want to participate.

If you have a legitimate connection to the people or circumstances involved, your character may become involved where reasonable.

7.1Gang Conflict+

Gang conflict should be driven by roleplay.

Territory, business, drugs, relationships, retaliation and other established disputes can all provide reasons for conflict.

Randomly attacking another group solely because they belong to a different gang is not sufficient.

7.2Escalation+

Gang conflicts should develop rather than immediately becoming endless shootouts.

Players are encouraged to use threats, intimidation, deals, retaliation, robberies and other forms of interaction to create an ongoing story.

7.3Third-Party Involvement+

Groups should not join an active conflict simply because they want to participate in a fight.

There must be a legitimate existing roleplay reason for becoming involved.

7.4Character Knowledge+

Knowing something on one gang character does not mean another one of your characters automatically knows it.

Normal metagaming and character-separation rules continue to apply.

7.5Whitelisted Group Rules+

Whitelisted gangs and organizations are also subject to additional group-specific rules and expectations.

VIEW WHITELISTED GROUP RULES →

8.1Business Roleplay+

Player-owned businesses exist to generate roleplay.

Owners and employees should use business systems responsibly and should not exploit business permissions, storage or finances.

8.2Business Funds+

Business accounts may not be treated as personal banks unless the business mechanics and roleplay reasonably support a payment or withdrawal.

Deliberately draining a business account, storage or assets without legitimate roleplay or authorization may result in staff action.

8.3Employee Permissions+

Access granted through a job or business position may not be abused simply because the game technically allows the action.

8.4Economy Exploitation+

Duplicating items, laundering money through unintended mechanics, repeatedly exploiting price discrepancies or knowingly abusing an economic bug is prohibited.

Significant economy exploits should be reported immediately.

9.1Sexual & Adult Relationship Roleplay+

Romantic relationships, flirting and adult themes between characters are permitted.

Explicit sexual or erotic roleplay is not permitted on Rift. Sexual activity may be implied or handled through a "fade to black," but should not be explicitly acted out through voice, text, animations or /me commands.

Sexual harassment, non-consensual sexual content and roleplay involving sexual assault are strictly prohibited.

9.2Suicide & Self-Harm Roleplay+

Roleplay involving suicide or deliberate self-harm is not permitted.

This restriction exists because these subjects can have significant real-world impact on other members of the community.

9.3Terrorism & Extreme Roleplay+

Roleplay designed around real-world terrorism, extremist organizations or mass-casualty attacks is prohibited.

The existence of weapons or explosives within Rift does not automatically make terrorism-themed roleplay acceptable.

Explosives may still be used where supported by legitimate criminal roleplay and server mechanics.

9.4Extreme or Disturbing Content+

Players should consider the comfort of everyone involved before introducing unusually graphic, disturbing or sensitive subject matter into a scene.

Nobody should be forced to participate in extreme roleplay they are uncomfortable with.

9.5Torture & Interrogation Roleplay+

Torture or interrogation may be used as part of roleplay, but it does not automatically force another character to reveal information, confess, provide passwords or give truthful answers.

Players must be given reasonable agency in how their character responds. Game mechanics, /me commands or torture RP may not be used to force knowledge from another character.

Graphic or prolonged torture RP requires the OOC consent of everyone directly involved. A player may withdraw that consent at any time.

10.1Stay In Character+

Do not stop an active roleplay scene to argue about rules.

If another player breaks a rule, continue the scene where reasonably possible and report it afterward.

Serious exploits, harassment or situations requiring immediate staff intervention are exceptions.

10.2Reports+

When submitting a report, provide as much relevant information as possible.

Video evidence is strongly encouraged where available.

Reports should explain the situation rather than simply demanding another player be punished.

10.3Staff Decisions+

Staff will consider the context, intent, severity and history surrounding an incident when determining an appropriate response.

Similar situations may have different outcomes when the surrounding circumstances are different.

10.4Rule Technicalities+

Attempting to deliberately exploit wording, loopholes or technicalities in the rules is not acceptable.

If an action obviously undermines fair roleplay, the absence of an exact sentence prohibiting that specific action does not automatically make it acceptable.

10.5Bugs & Exploits+

If something appears broken or provides an unintended advantage, stop using it and report it.

Repeatedly exploiting something because "it isn't specifically mentioned in the rules" will not be accepted as a defense.

10.6Staff Interaction+

Treat staff respectfully when discussing reports or disciplinary matters.

Disagreeing with a staff decision is allowed.

Abusing staff members, deliberately withholding evidence, lying during an investigation or attempting to manipulate a report is not.

10.7Rule Changes+

Rift is constantly evolving.

Rules may be updated as new systems, activities and styles of roleplay are introduced.

Players are responsible for keeping reasonably up to date with announced rule changes.

# FINAL PRINCIPLE

Rift's rules are not intended to dictate every action your character can take.

They exist to establish the boundaries that allow everybody to tell stories together.

Before doing something, consider:

Does this create roleplay, or am I only doing it because the game lets me?

Am I giving the other players a reasonable opportunity to participate?

Would I still consider this fair if I were on the other side of the situation?

When everybody approaches the server that way, fewer rules are necessary.

Create stories. Accept consequences. Let the RP develop.

THE FINAL PRINCIPLE

Create stories. Accept consequences.
Let the RP develop.
